oil and composite gold leaf on canvas
This piece illustrates that life is both beautiful and fragile - something the pandemic has made us all too aware of since it's outbreak in 2020. Like the crossing of butterflies over an ocean, their futile projectory informs a similar narrative. Thick opaque green and blue hues are rendered to (visually) outweigh the more delicate forms above. The stylised background of gold is inspired by gold leaf's historical use in asian art. When lit by lamplight, this piece is transformed by the gold's illumination.
